While
the world battles to contain most infectious outbreaks here is organic
anomaly, with symptoms of sweaty flushes generated by uncontrollable hip
shaking, that should be encouraged to spread like wildfire.
Irish and
Mexican entities formed an alliance in London and were allowed to mature in
the musical Petri dish that is Mexico City. By the end of 2006 the result,
Simplifires, was ready to make its first release, the Simple EP, carried on
the airwaves of conventional and internet radio but mostly spread through
live contact.
Real
musicianship fused with real showmanship in order to allow the group to slip
between the parallel worlds of studio and stage with consummate ease. The
Mexican media had low resistance levels, Rolling Stone announced the band as
the one to watch and every other magazine, radio show and TV program has
fallen victim to its unique potent chemistry. But it is when the band and
public meet that tells the true tale, the fitful cavorting on stage and off
is an indication of an ever increasing epidemic. It can only mean one thing
– this is a chronic condition.
Simplifires encapsulates the cosmopolitan nature of Mexico’s music scene but
it is the quality of the rock music that has made it particularly virulent.
With a full length release planned for early 2008 and the first video
complete, the vectors are in place to bring this cultural contagion back to
its point of origin.
