Zoe
have an important few days, today (12 julio) is the launch of their new
album "memo - rex commander y el corazon
de la via lactea" (Noiselab/EMI). Included in the production notes
is Phil Vinall who worked with the
band on their first 2 releases. The disc includes material from "the room"
ep, "via lactea" and a track sung by Charlatan Tim Burgess. The album
represents an important juncture in the bands development after
disappointing spells with major labels which resulted in signing with
Noiselab, where they seem to be
happier and more productive. Saturday (15 julio) there is a sell out gig
at the Metropolitan will
officially send the new disc on its "milky" way.
Zoe are very much the vanguard group of new mexican music. Their experiences over the last few years are a reminder of the importance of perseverence and focus in building a lasting career in the music business. The group are making a significant contribution to the scene in general. This is best captured in the remixes of the singles from the album made by a number of up and coming acts such as Bengala and Sub Division amongst others.
If there is one complaint it would be after "120 hrs of graphic design" it is still almost impossible to read the notes on the sleeve. The design and packaging overall however is of high quality as with all Noiselab releases. This would seem to be an interesting strategy to encourage consumers to buy the original rather than the pirate copies that are probably being burned on the backstreets of Tepito at this very moment.
